New Anti-Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Bill in Sierra Leone: Implications for Policy and Practice

 

 

The Sierra Leone Parliament passed the Anti-Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Act in 2022, updating existing legislation from 2005.

The new act offers Sierra Leone’s anti-trafficking actors updated legal tools and fresh motivation to tackle the problem of human trafficking. But the task of implementing the act’s directives will be challenging, writes Reuben Lewis, a policy consultant with the CenHTRO/APRIES Think Tank in Sierra Leone.
