Isatu Alphina Forna (she/her) is a social work student pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Georgia. She has a background in nursing and a bachelor’s degree in social work from Fourah Bay College University of Sierra Leone. Her past experience includes mentoring vulnerable girls in Sierra Leone with Project Pikin, where she provided life skills training, academic monitoring, and personal growth support. Currently, she is drawn to issues of human trafficking and modern slavery, highly prevalent in Sierra Leone as youth are forced to seek opportunities elsewhere. She aims to broaden her knowledge and contribute to addressing these wider issues of exploitation and trauma. She plans to specialize as a trauma-informed therapist and advocate, focusing on gender inequities.
