Dr. Liu Liu

Assistant Research Scientist
In her role as an assistant research scientist, Dr. Liu is actively involved with CenHTRO’s research projects using both quantitative and mixed-methods approaches. Her research focuses on the appropriate use of quantitative methods in social, behavioral, and educational research. Her primary interests include multilevel modeling (MLM), structural equation modeling (SEM), Bayesian statistics, item response theory (IRT), and longitudinal methods. Her dissertation focuses on the choices of variance component priors in Bayesian multilevel models and their role in improving parameter estimate precision, with the aim of helping researchers move beyond default priors that are often software specific. In addition to her methodological research, she collaborates with colleagues on projects that promote equitable resource access for at-risk and historically underserved populations, particular in the areas of education, behavioral health, and social justice. She is passionate about using research as a tool to drive positive change, and believes that rigorous inquiry can contribute to a more equitable and just society. She is also skilled in integrating mixed methods to enrich research findings and provide comprehensive insights.
